Mr Underwood and Mr Riley began training in 1993 under the instruction of Mr Kalcutt, WMST's Chief Instructor. During the early years Mr Underwood and Mr Riley became well known in the tournament circuits and obtained a number of titles competing in English, Welsh, Scottish & British Championships. In 1997 both Mr Underwood and Mr Riley graded under Grand Master Hee Il Cho and obtained their 1st Degree Black Belts. After achieving 1st Degree Black Belt both instructors strived to increase their experience and knowledge of martial arts by training in different styles. Mr Riley and Mr Underwood trained for a time in Kick Boxing and Lau-Gar Kung-Fu. Following on from this Mr Underwood went on to train with World renowned fighter Mr Mark Weir learning Range Fighting and Self Defence. Mr Underwood and Mr Riley also focused on their recently obtained MADEC coaching license with a view to opening their own club in the near future. In 2001 Mr Riley and Mr Underwood gained their Second Degree Black Belts and with the support of WMST opened their own club in Highnam. The club is well known for its friendly atmosphere with a mixed range of grades and abilities comprising of men, women and children. Mr Adam Underwood (2nd Degree) and Miss Sam Cook (1st Degree) provide valuable assistance to help enable every student reach their full potential. With the new club establishing well Mr Underwood and Mr Riley continued to train under the guidence of Mr Kalcutt and in 2004 successfully graded obtaining their 3rd Degree Black Belts. 2004 also presented the AIMAA World Open Championships where Mr Underwood won the Black Belt Men's Middleweight Gold and Mr Riley won the Black Belt Men's Heavyweight Silver. Both instructors also teamed up to win the Black Belt Men's Open-weight Team Gold. Mr Underwood and Mr Riley are fully qualified and insured MADEC instructors with First Aid Certification and a wealth of knowledge in Tae Kwon-Do. Both are committed to teaching all of their students to WMST's high standards. |
